Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), in association with the US- based Arrow Electronics is setting up an IoT Centre of Excellence – STPI IoT OpenLab in Bengaluru. The centre will support and nurture around 500 start-ups over a period of five years.
STPI stated in a statement on Monday that the first batch of IoT startups is on board. The lab is spread over an area of 4,200 sq ft.
It added that The STPI IoT OpenLab would bring about revolutionary changes in IoT innovation, product creation, and IPR creation by fostering promising technology start-ups while providing a compelling collaborative forum. IoT OpenLab will help such start-ups to build disruptive IoT-based technologies, products and solutions in various market verticals such as defence, aeronautics, aeronautics, industrial, agriculture, health, automotive and education.
The lab is supported by IESA and TiE, both Industry Association Partners by providing network resource for start-ups, PES Institute of Technology and RV College of Engineering (Academic Partners) to provide start-ups with academic knowledge and mentoring, and CyberMedia and Platform Synergy (VC / Angel Partners) to provide start-ups with funding access and resources.
Other industry partnerships include ONsemi, Kyocera, NXP, Analog devices, ST Micro, Infineon, Silicon Labs, Microchip, Littelfuse, and KEMET. This effort by STPI will create a very positive environment for new IoT initiatives in India, said Chandramohan of cTela, the Silicon Valley-based company which is into IoT space.
STPI Director-General Omkar Rai, in his keynote address during the webinar of Going Live with STPI IoT OpenLab, stated that start-ups can access the STPI IoT OpenLab from across the country and leverage the potential of mentor pool.”
STPI is an autonomous society under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Arrow Electronics is an American Fortune 500 company headquartered in Centennial, Colorado. The company specializes in distribution and value-added services relating to electronic components and computer products. In 2018, Arrow had taken over eInfoChips, an Ahmedabad-based global provider of product engineering and semiconductor design services.
