Sudarshan Chemical Industries Limited, in collaboration with Deepak Foundation-Vadodara, has launched a Mobile Mammography Unit (MMU) to provide accessible breast cancer screening services to underserved women in rural and semi-urban regions of Ankleshwar Taluka, Bharuch district.
The Mobile Mammography Unit addresses a critical healthcare gap in Gujarat’s rural areas where early detection services remain largely inaccessible. The initiative targets women aged 35-70 years across 28 strategically selected villages near the Ankleshwar industrial area, with plans for expansion to additional locations based on community needs and impact assessment.
Speaking on the launch, Shivalika Raje, Head of People Practices and Chief Sustainability Officer, Sudarshan Chemical said, “Healthcare access should not be determined by geography or economic circumstances. Through our Mobile Mammography Unit, we are bringing world-class early detection services directly to women who need them most. The state-of-the-art mobile unit is equipped with advanced mammography technology and staffed by qualified medical professionals including a medical officer, trained radiographer, nurse and counsellor. This comprehensive team will provide essential emotional support and health education to beneficiaries throughout the screening process.
Beyond screening services, the mobile unit will deliver integrated breast health awareness programs during each village visit. These include 30-minute interactive educational sessions addressing breast cancer risk factors, early warning signs and dispelling common myths surrounding the disease. The initiative specifically targets high-impact demographics including female government employees in district offices, ASHA and Anganwadi workers who serve dual roles as beneficiaries and community health facilitators and women in tribal belts identified as high-risk, low-screening zones through district health data analysis.
Recognizing that early detection must be coupled with accessible treatment pathways, Sudarshan will established collaboration with local hospitals to ensure seamless referral systems for follow-up diagnostics and treatment. Additionally, through Project Sangath, Sudarshan will facilitate creation of Ayushman Bharat health cards, enabling beneficiaries to access continued treatment at hospitals of their choice under government healthcare schemes.
Post the launch of the mobile van, Sudarshan will conduct regular impact assessments to measure screening uptake rates, early detection outcomes and community awareness improvements, ensuring the initiative delivers health benefits while informing future healthcare access programs.
