As part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Air Marshal Vikram Singh AVSM VSM, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Air Command hoisted ‘Tricolour’ at Sabarmati Ashram at 5:30 pm here on Friday 12. The AOC-in-C was accompanied by Dr Arathi Singh, President, Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Regional).

Later, President of Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Regional) inaugurated the musical concert of the Indian Air Force Band at Sabarmati River Front West Bank at 06:30 pm.
Further, AOC-in-C, SWAC witnessed a performance by the Indian Air Force Band. Senior officers from the three services and along with scores of civilians attended the concert.
The Air Force Band led by Warrant Officer Manoranjan Thakur played martial tunes by starting with ‘Vayu Shakthi’. Patriotic songs were rendered by local artists as well by the personnel of the Air Force Band. The IAF Band comprised musicians specializing in brass, woodwind, reed string, electronic, and percussion instruments. The dazzling performance included different military music, patriotic songs, and popular tunes from Indian films. The audience present on the occasion were enthralled by the performances of the band. The entire atmosphere was filled with patriotic fervour.
The event was aimed at motivating the young generation to take up the IAF as their primary career option and instill patriotism in them. Several events under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav as the festival of renaissance, commemorating 75 years of India’s Independence are being conducted all over the country.
The Indian Air Force band became a member of the International Military Music Society, headquartered in Norway, in 2005. India is the first country in Asia to become a member of this International Military Music Society.
