Some 18 stalls for exhibiting products and services of entrepreneurs were established at the university campus in addition to four stalls by university staff members. Each of these showcases a variety of locally produced goods and services.
The idea behind organising the event was to raise awareness among students and faculty members about consuming and supporting local economies and businesses and enable them to create employment opportunities.
By encouraging students to prioritise locally manufactured goods, the initiative also sought to empower communities, preserve traditional crafts, and stimulate local enterprise growth.
Mentored by Jiten Thakkar, the event included talks by Nikita Adi Jain, Chairperson of the Atmanirbhar Divyang Cell and Women Entrepreneurship Development Cell and CA Siddarth Bhatt.
During her address in the inaugural ceremony of the event, Mrs Jain encouraged students to engage in initiatives like ‘Vocal for Local’ and move towards attaining self-reliance. CA Sidharth on the other hand, talked about the impact of local entrepreneurship in India’s emerging economy.
Speaking about the initiative, Adi Jain, Vice President, Swarrnim Startup & Innovation University, said, “At Swarrnim Startup & Innovation University, we have always strived to promote entrepreneurs and inculcate entrepreneurial skills and business acumen among students, enabling them to become job creators. The ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative is our humble attempt at nurturing several local entrepreneurs and helping them market their products better, innovate, earn better revenues and employ more people. By supporting local businesses and artisans, we aim to empower communities. At the same time, it is proving helpful to our students in making mindful choices while making purchases.”
Dr Sourbhi Chaturvedi, Director, Swarrnim School of Management, Commerce and Liberal Arts, was also present at the inaugural ceremony and termed the initiative as a ‘cornerstone’ for preparing students for their entrepreneurial journeys.
