CHENNAI, DEC 11

In the wake of Cyclone Michaung’s aftermath, the Tamil Nadu government has earmarked Rs 1.90 crore for a cleanup drive in schools across four districts. Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur will benefit from this allocation, aimed at restoring educational facilities affected by heavy rain during the first week of December.

As Chennai faced severe waterlogging and disruption of essential services during the cyclonic weather, the state government responded with relief efforts. The allocated funds will specifically target schools in low-lying areas that experienced waterlogging.

Health Minister Ma Subramanian highlighted the government’s collaboration with private hospitals, organising over 800 medical camps across affected districts. Speaking on the initiative, he said, “We have collaborated with seven private hospitals, conducting medical camps on the banks of the Adayar River at Saidapet. If needed, this could be extended to other places in Chennai as well.”

Meanwhile, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has launched a cleanup drive to tackle stagnant water and clear debris, contributing to the ongoing restoration process in affected areas.
