Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi felicitated 65 eminent sportspersons from the state for their remarkable performance in Olympics, Paralympics, Chess Olympiad, Common Wealth Games and Kehlo India Youth Games-2022 at the Raj Bhavan here on Sunday.

The Governor congratulated the eminent sports personalities and medal winners who added proud for the State and Nation for their remarkable accomplishments and conferred citations and shields. He hailed unwavering commitments, hard work and dedication of their parents and coaches. While sharing his experiences from Beijing Olympics-2008, he said that we were almost invisible on International Sports Map. He underlined the paradigm shift in the sports eco system which is now reverberating with unleashed energy and immense potential of youth, making India a prominent sports country.

The Governor said, “The outstanding sports performances are amalgamation of tapasya, hard work, sustained discipline, patience, dedication and transfer of knowledge and skills to the next generation of sports persons.”
The Governor recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s drive and initiatives towards bringing up the sports excellence with various initiatives such as FIT India campaign and special emphasis on fitness through programme’s like Yoga providing momentum to youth.
He elaborated how the achievements of sports persons touches life of every Indian by galvanizing the youth far more productive achievements, making every citizen proud, strengthening their confidence to take up challenges without getting intimidated from set-backs which is ultimately paving way for strong Nation Building. He applauded greater participation of girls in the sports, their achievement have given new energy to women empowerment.
He urged the sports persons to work hard with continued focus on goals with utmost fitness and he achieve great laurels and inspiration for current and future generations. He also urged the Vice-Chancellors of Universities and heads of educational institutions to promote more sports related activities and encourage sports among students. It will energize new India to conquer many heights in the Amrit Kaal of next 25 years to place India as Vishwa Guru in sports by the year 2047 when 100 years of Independence will be celebrated by Nation.
Padma Vibhushan, Deputy President, FIDE and Grand Master Viswanathan Anand who was special guest in his address highlighted rising participation of females and paraolympians to the main arena. He also highlighted Tamil Nadu has been performing remarkable in promoting youths’ power and games.
Principal Secretary to Governor Anandrao V Patil in his welcome address emphasized on the relevance of sports which helps in making of human perfect and create responsible citizens with healthy body and healthy mind to be part of building great India. He highlighted about the initiatives taken by Raj Bhavan that are for the first time in its history in conducting various events and programmes to promote patriotism and paying gratitude to unsung freedom fighters, improving quality education further etc.
Padma awardees, Mariyappan Thangavelu, CA Bhavani Devi, Joshna Chinnappa, Chess Grand Masters, sports aspirants, coachers, parents, distinguished invitees, dignitaries, officials and staff of Raj Bhavan participated in this function.
