With an aim to preserve and propagate the ancient martial arts, Silambam, as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and to Commemorate 75 Years of Independence an event – on the theme “Cultural Pride” – “Performance Of Silambam” was organised on Wednesday at the Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Income Tax Headquarters in Chennai.

It was held at the office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry at Income Tax Office, 121, M.G. Road, Chennai-34.
The Silambam has its roots in the State of TN in South India. It is a martial art which is mainly based on weapons, being a stick. Nearly 20 Students from Swami Vivekanda Silamaba Koodam Trust performed various forms of SILAMBAM.(2/3)@IncomeTaxIndia #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav pic.twitter.com/rGtC19g0VT

“The Silambam has its roots in the State of Tamil Nadu in South India. It is a martial art which is mainly based on weapons, being a stick. Nearly 20 students from ‘Swami Vivekananda Silamba Koodam Trust’ performed various forms of Silambam like Single/Double Stick Silambam, Maan Kombu Silambam, Chakrabanam, Velkambu, Surul, Kathi Fight and Fire Silambam,” says a release.
Senior Officers and Officials of the Department graced the occasion.
