Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Region Income-tax Department has advised the public to desist from fraudulent persons here on Friday.
“It has come to the notice of the Income-tax Department that unscrupulous elements are trying to deceive the public through fictitious letters/email from unauthorised email IDs in the motive of scamming money. It has also come to our notice that calls are also being made to that effect,” an ITD release said.

It is brought to the notice of the public that the authenticity of the email/letters/phone calls received to pay any amount or tax or any other payment from your personal account may kindly be verified from the Department through email ID or contact number as furnished in the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Income Tax authorised website www.tnincometax.gov.in / grievance, the statement added.

The public may also verify the genuineness of their demand outstanding details by logging into their e-filing portal and if required may confirm from the respective Jurisdictional Assessing Officers.
The Department also wishes to caution the general public, that all our official correspondences bear Documentation Identification Number (DIN) and will be sent through official mail ID only. Therefore, public are requested not to fall prey to such fraudulent attempts by imposters.
The Department does not provide any links for payment of tax. Tax payments will have to be made by filling appropriate challans through online/banking channels.
Accordingly, the Income Tax Department, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Region wishes to advise the public to desist from responding to such phishing email / attempts by such fraudulent persons, according to a press release issued by V Vidhyadhar, Additional Commissioner of Income – Tax, (HQ) (ADMN & TPS), Chennai.
