Telangana Governor and former Tamil Nadu BJP President Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan sworn-in as Lt. Governor of Puducherry at a function held in Raj Nivas on Thursday.
Chief Justice of Madras High Court Sanjib Banerjee administered the oath of office to Dr. Tamilisai Soundarajan. She is the first Tamil-speaking LG and also the 5th woman posted for this highest office.
Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, his cabinet colleagues, former Chief Minister N Rangasamy, MLAs, and others attended the function.
Immediately after the swearing-in ceremony Dr. Soundararajan cleared the first file for the welfare of Brothers and Sisters of SC & ST beneficiaries in lieu of Clothing Material & Grant-In-Aid for AIDS Control Society at Raj Nivas.

She was given a customary guard of honour by the Puducherry Police outside the Raj Nivas on Thursday morning.
She was posted as Lt Governor in-charge after former IPS officer Kiran Bedi was removed from office through a Presidential order on Tuesday night.
Bedi was Lt Governor in the Union territory since May 2016.
Soundararajan arrived at Puducherry on Wednesday evening and sources said she offered worship at the famous Manakula Vinayakar temple near Raj Nivas.
Chief Minister V Narayanasamy accompanied by Deputy Speaker M N R Balan and Government whip R K R Anandaraman met her at Raj Nivas and felicitated her.
A delegation of legislators belonging to the opposition and headed by the leader of the opposition and former Chief Minister N Rangasamy (AINRC) called on her and presented bouquets.
Earlier, an official of the union territory handed over the warrant of appointment to the Telangana Governor at Hyderabad.
Krishna Kumar Singh, Special Resident Commissioner, Pondicherry, called on the Telangana Governor at Raj Bhavan and handed over the Warrant of Appointment “to discharge the duties as the Lt Governor of Pondicherry,” a Raj Bhavan press communique said in Hyderabad.
Puducherry has had four women as Lt Governor earlier, including Kiran Bedi.
Outgoing Lt Governor Kiran Bedi was given a farewell guard of honour by Puducherry Police outside Raj Nivas.
Sources said Bedi, however, would remain in Raj Nivas as per her desire till Saturday.
