Gajendrasinh Vala, general secretary of Bhavnagar District Teachers Association, was accorded a special farewell on his retirement by dignitaries on the dais.
Thirty-five teachers, one from each of the 33 districts, one municipal corporation and one municipality were presented the Chitrakut Award on the occasion. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a citation letter.
Respected Morari Bapu emphasised the need to teach the textbook of the human body to children. He said it is important to teach children the importance of earth, sky, air, water and fire, the five elements that make the human body, and to imbibe their qualities in them.
“The earth refers to geography and encompasses everything. The sky is the knowledge of astronomy and air means understanding of the environment. Studying water means understanding the virtue of purity and also realising that not striving for more than that is necessary. Air also teaches us to adopt qualities such as patience, fragrance and calm,” he said.
Morari Bapu said in a lighter vein that teachers will not get an increment for this but will receive gratitude from the children. He also said that a teacher should be a reviewer, examiner, inspector and supervisor.
In his address, Education Minister Praful Pansheriya emphasised the importance of education in rural areas. He called upon the teachers to instil values of truth, love and compassion among the children. He cited examples from the Upanishads and said he felt blessed to be in the sacred land of Talgajarda for the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Gujarat State Primary Teacher Association President Digvijaysinh Jadeja and General Secretary Satishbhai expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Morari Bapu for honouring teachers and said they were happy to be a part of the endeavour.
MLA Shiva Gohil, APMC Chairman Ghanshyam Patel, Village Sarpanch Bholabhai, officials from the District Education Office, office-bearers of Gujarat State Primary Teacher Association, and a large number of teachers were in attendance at the ceremony. Bharat Pandya anchored the event. Gajendrasinh Vala presented the vote of thanks.
