A senior citizen sitting in front of his residence after dinner was knocked down by a 13-year-old girl allegedly driving a car in Tirupur. The car came to a halt after dragging the victim for some distance.
The incident took place in Tirupur on the night of November 25. The CCTV footage of the accident went viral in social media in the surveillance camera commissioned by the police.
The victim was identified as V. Gandhimanian (68) of Kuthuspuram in Tirupur town.
The victim sustained injuries, whose ribs and hands got fractured in the incident. However, he did not lodge a complaint with the police as the family of the minor girl assured him that they would take care of his medical expenses, police sources said.
Gandhimanian was hospitalised after the incident. The accident took place when the girl was learning driving, police said.
Gandhimanian had finished his dinner and was sitting outside his house as usual. The viral video shows him sitting on the side of the road when the car runs over him.
In the video, the car can be seen running over the elderly man and later the passenger door opens and a person is seen helping the girl who was driving to get out of the car.
The visual extracted from the surveillance camera showed Gandhimanian sitting outside the house at 9.47 p.m. on the night of the incident and the car driven by the minor girl running over him. The car came to a halt after dragging the elderly man over a few metres, police sources said. However, it was not clear whether the police have booked the girl according to the Motor Vehicle Act.
