Telangana Governor and Puduchery Lieutenant Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has stressed on the need for providing better nutrition in government hospitals, midday meals in schools, and inclusion of traditional regional foods with vegetables and eggs.

Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan inaugurated the IAPEN India Clinical Nutrition Congress – 2023 at Taj Coromandel, Chennai, on Friday.

In her inaugural address Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said, “Being a medico by profession, whenever I  get invitations to participate in medical seminars, I used to accept them as my primary duty. Whatever research the doctors do and discover or innovate, it should be made available to the downtrodden and all government hospitals should provide good nutritious food.”

Dr Tamilisai further added that when she became the Lt Governor of Puducherry, school children were given only one egg per week along with midday meals. To end the malnutrition among students, she signed her first file to serve three eggs per week with vegetables.

She also recalled the nutrition supplement being given to the tribals in Telangana and advocated the need to focus on tropical traditional and regional food.

The convention was based on the themes of ‘Rejuvenation, Renewal and Refocus,’ along with enhancing the skills of nutrition care professionals.

International and national level Clinical Nutrition Committees recorded their views and conducted training workshops. Dr A Bhuvaneshwari, the Chief Organiser, ICNC  2023, Dr P C Vijayakumar, Honorary National President, IAPEN India and others participated in this program.

The IAPEN has been recognized by the Parental and Eternal Nutrition Organizations ASPEN of USA and ENPEN of Europe. The organization continues to contribute to the development and dissemination of knowledge in the field of food and parenteral nutrition.
