Telangana Commissioner of Handlooms, Textiles & AEPs Shailaja Ramaiyer, IAS on Wednesday inaugurated the ‘Grameen Celebrating Development’, an exhibition of rural crafts and handlooms, here on Wednesday.

Telangana Regional Office of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is holding this week-long expo from Wednesday to Tuesday, October 16 to 22 at Kamma Sangham Hall, Ameerpet, Hyderabad.
In her inaugural address, Shailaja Ramaiyer, IAS, Commissioner of Handlooms, Textiles and AEPs, Govt of Telangana, appreciated NABARD for continuously providing this platform for the eleventh year. She said, “NABARD is doing a great job by identifying the requirements of the customer and working backwards to encourage the artisans diversify and further improve their products. There are best skills available in the market in Telangana producing some of the exquisite pieces.”
She exhorted the artisans to work towards improving their skills for meeting the customers’ needs. She also encouraged the participants to make use of the free stall in increasing their product base. She assured support of Government of Telangana in preserving the State’s crafts by maintaining their quality and through promotional support.
Artisans from as many as twenty States are displaying their products and the Exhibition is one-stop-shop for buying products and artefacts from across the Country.
In his welcome address, B Uday Bhaskar CGM, NABARD, explained the objective and utility of this Exhibition-cum-Sale. He said, “It has been NABARD’s endeavour over the last four decades to help the rural artisans and handloom weavers build their capacity to enhance their skills, diversify their products and scale up to bring rural arts and crafts to a stage of enterprise. It has been funding training programmes for the rural youth in various activities the areas are famous for.”
He informed that in Telangana, NABARD has been holding this Exhibition under the brand name of Deccan Haat. However, this year onwards, NABARD has rechristened it as ‘Grameen…Celebrating Development’ across the country to maintain uniformity. He exhorted the people to utilize this opportunity to know and buy various rural artefacts and handlooms and other products from across the country under one roof at the comfort of Hyderabad city itself and spread the word among their friends and relatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Sharath Mutyala of Ni-MSME informed that their organization is promoting digital presence of all artisans in partnership with NABARD. He encouraged them to make use of digital media to expand their product reach and diversify their products to match the expectations of the existing and new customers.

Jagdish, DGM, Reserve Bank of India shared his personal experiences and discovery of various difficulties of the artisans in storing and marketing of the products in spite of having skill to make the products. He lauded NABARD for creating of OFPOs that helped in overcoming these difficulties faced by artisans.
The Inaugural Ceremony ended with Vote of Thanks by R. Ganapathy, General Manager, NABARD.
