Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Monday tested negative for coronavirus after volunteering for the process in keeping with his “test is best” slogan, said officials.

A state government release said Rupani took the test to encourage people to come forward without fear to find out if they have the infection.
Rupani has coined the “test is best” slogan and said they are necessary for timely detection and treatment of the novel coronavirus infection, it added.

1,334 COVID-19 cases push state tally to near 1.15 lakh
Gujarat on Monday reported 1,334 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total count of infections to 1,14,996, the state health department said.
The cumulative toll rose to 3,230 with 17 more deaths, it said.
At the same time, 1,255 patients were discharged after treatment in the day, taking the number of recoveries to 95,265, the department said in a release.
Gujarat’s case recovery rate now stands at 82.84 percent, it stated.
Out of the 17 fatalities, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Surat reported three deaths each, while two patients died each in Jamnagar, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar. One patient succumbed each in Bharuch and Vadodara, the department said.
At 278, Surat reported the highest number of new cases in the state in the day, followed by Ahmedabad at 175. Rajkot, Vadodara, and Jamnagar added 151, 131, and 120 cases, respectively.
Elsewhere, Junagadh and Gandhinagar reported 39 new cases each, Patan 35, Bhavnagar 33, and Kutch 30. Amreli, Banaskantha, and Panchmahal each added 28 cases, while Morbi reported 25 infections, Dahod 23, and Mehsana 20.
Bharuch, Jamnagar, and Surendranagar each added 19 patients, followed by Tapi 18, Gir Somnath 15, Navsari 14, Sabarkantha 11, and Mahisagar 10.
The number of active cases in the state now stands at 16,501, the release said.
A total of 71,507 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, at the rate of 1,100.10 tests per day per million population.
33,60,318 samples have been tested to date in the state.
Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,14,996, new cases 1,334, deaths 3,230, discharged 95,265, active cases 16,501, and people tested so far 33,60,318.

Ahmedabad cases rise by 175 to 33,900; three die
Ahmedabad district on Monday reported 175 new coronavirus positive cases, taking the total count of infections to 33,900, the Gujarat health department said.
With three more fatalities, the total toll went up to 1,777, it said.
A total of 193 patients were discharged after treatment in the day, taking the count of recoveries in the district to 27,906, it said.
All three fatalities occurred in the city, the department said.
Of the 175 new cases, 149 were reported from Ahmedabad city, while 26 patients were detected in rural areas.
The case count in rural areas now stands at 2,088 while the number of recoveries rose to 1,947 with 25 patients getting discharged in the day, officials said.
Ahmedabad now has 3,728 active cases, the civic body said, adding that the highest number of these cases (669) are concentrated in the north-west zone, followed by 643 in the west zone, and 619 in the south-west zone.

Surat tally rises by 278 to 24,723; 265 recover
Surat district on Monday reported 278 new COVID-19 cases, the highest in Gujarat, taking the count of infections to 24,723, the state health department said.
With three more patients succumbing to the infection, the toll went up to 874, it said.
Simultaneously, 265 people recovered in the district in the day, the department said.
Of the 278 new cases, Surat city reported 176 and rural areas 102, it said.
Out of the 265 recoveries, Surat’s share was 189 while 76 people were discharged in rural areas.
Surat’s case recovery rate now stands at 88.4 percent with 16,576 people discharged so far after treatment.
The city civic body has surveyed 8.03 lakh people so far in the areas from where COVID-19 cases have been reported.
A total of 39,818 people have been quarantined in the city, it said.
In rural parts of Surat, the total number of cases stands at 5,867, a health official said.
Kamrej and Choryasi talukas have reported over a thousand cases so far at 1,141 and 1,086, respectively.
A total of 43,169 people are home quarantined in rural areas of Surat, the official said.
