On the occasion of Didi Nirmala Deshpande’s death Anniversary (Memorial Day) and May Day, a two-week Free Summer Integrated Skill Course (Electrician, Fitter, Wireman, Refrigeration AC Mechanic, Carpentry and for Girls Tailoring and beautician Training) organized by Thakkar Bapa Vidyalaya was Inaugurated on Wednesday at Thakkar Bapa Vidyalaya in T Nagar here.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with Sarva Dharma Samabhav Gandhian Prayer followed by offering of Floral Tributes by the Chief-guest, President and Guests.

  • Admissions open for Free Regular ITI Training: 8th Std. and 10th Std., appeared or passed

In his welcome address, P Maruthi, Secretary said, “Everyone attending the course and other guests should not only be proud but also feel on entering the sacred place.  Mahatma Gandhi had laid the foundation for the Institute. The consecration of Gandhiji’s Ashes and a small quantity of the blood strained soil of Mahatma Gandhi was kept under the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Gandhi Gallery in the premises. During consecration of Ashes Ceremony in the premises, OP Ramaswami Reddiyar, Premier said this institution should be for creating a band of self-sacrificing workers to carry out the Constructive Programme of Gandhiji and spread his message of sacrifice, truth, love and non-violence.”

Desabhakta Konda Venkatapayya, V Bashyam Iyengar, President of the Vidyalaya also participated.

Funding under MSME schemes

Chief guest Abjit Bardan, Assistant  General Manager, (MSME), Canara Bank said, “We are also giving Training and informed that the Govt is giving a lot of importance to help under MSME schemes and are willing to finance those who complete skill training and wish to become an entrepreneur.”

Admissions open for Thakkar Bapa Nursery and Primary Free School

The Secretary highlighted that the institution is carrying forward the mission of Mahatma Gandhi by serving the needy to improve their Social Status through education by laying strong foundation amongst the children from LKG to 5th Std., through Thakkar Bapa Nursery and Primary Free School. Now, admissions open for the ensuing academic year.

Vocational Training

To improve the economic status through vocational Training, it conducts 2-year courses of NCVT in Electrician, Fitter, Wireman and under SCVT one-year MRAC & Central Plant-Supported by the Blue Star Ltd., and under Vidyalaya  Carpentry, Tailoring, Aarri work and Beautician Training one-year, six-month, one and half  month, respectively for the students who have passed 8th Std., and 10th Standard and 10th Standard failed.  The Institution assures job to all the successful candidates.

Those who complete this two weeks basic Integrated multi-disciplined Training will be given a certificate after evaluation of their performance.

Regular Training

The secretary stated that there are many parents, who’s children are not good in academics but showing keen interest in Training programmes. This year, such students will get a golden opportunity as the State Government has declared all pass for 8th Std.  If they complete ITI, they will get skill certificate for employment/self-employment and simultaneously, if they have an interest in academics, they can go for academics also, subject to the conditions laid down by the Government.

He added all that what is being done is with the Guidance given and blessings of our beloved Didi Nirmala Deshpande, throughout her life time, not only to us but also to thousands of youth across the globe.

N Padmakumar, Faculty in Electrician Trade and Placement Officer informed that the basic training in Electrician course  will be  on brief Introduction, Necessity of Electricity, How to Protect our self from electrical shock, Simple Wire Joints. LED tube light connection, Ceiling Fan Connection, Small electrical connections in home needs, Fuse rewiring, socket connection etc.,

Based on this basic Training, these Trainees can join in the 2-year regular course and will become full-fledged Trainees in the Trade.

Job placement

He said as advised by the Management and being a Gandhian Institution it renders help to others in the following areas:

To refer job opportunities to the ITI and Diploma completed Trainees, if they register in our placement Cell, as we are getting lot of calls from multinational companies, corporate houses and other undertakings;

Help 8th and 10th passed out students interested in ITI Trades to upload details in the respective portal, if they come with relevant document, even for the trades that are not available with us.

S Nagarajan, Faculty Member  briefed about the syllabus that they will be trained, namely Introduction on the trade, benefits, Measuring Practice , Hacksawing  ,Safety –personal , with machines and in the workshop , Sharpening tools , identification ,operating machines.

Sadacharam briefed about the courses in Carpentry and Air conditioning.

Free medical service

Dr Sandhya Kalidass highlighted about Free Homeopathy clinic functioning in the premises from Monday to Saturday and Free KFH-TBVS Charitable fertility clinic and shared info regarding two couples, who were benefitted by the guidance by the clinic. She requested the gathering to share this information with others in the interest of the common public.

D Raajendiran, IAS (Retired), Former Additional CEO in his special address said, “Basic Skill Training commenced on this May Day on the occasion of Sister Nirmala Deshpande’s Memorial Day is quite appropriate.”

He said there was no doubt that those who are getting Training will be benefitted and also get jobs. He advised not stop there but develop and become an entrepreneur. As our Imports are more than exports, he suggested that those who are getting training should aim to become an entrepreneur and prosper in their life and also help the country prosper.

BG Vijay, Journalist and close associate of Didi Nirmala Deshpande said that he is happy  to join here. He recalled that Didi encouraged him to become a journalist and an activist in Gandhian activities, instead of taking up IAS assignment. Like this Didi involved thousands of youth across the world in Gandhian activities and promoted Non-violence throughout her life time and even now Blessing her associates to carry forward her missions like the one as today.

Floral tributes

Dr S Pandian, President, Thakkar Bapa Vidyalaya Samithi in his Presidential address briefed about Didi’s Family and their background. In spite of her rich background, Didi selected a simple life and served the needy and promoted Poojya Vinoba Bhave’s ideology. He said “I am one of the persons very closely associated and influenced by her simple way of life”. He recalled her special contribution towards peace in neighboring countries and south Asia, though she worked for the globe.

Raghavendra Rao Kanala, Deputy General Manager & Regional Head, Canara Bank in his address said Canara Bank as this institution is also known for developing skills. Now the Government of India is encouraging more. He said that giving Training is not enough. They should be given, encouragement, inspiration and keep updating latest technology.

He quoted certain examples how people taken few thousand as loan in few years back have grown and now availing loan in lakhs of rupees.

He advised the organizers to invite successful entrepreneurs to inspire these Trainees.

He suggested to start learning, put hard work, be ethical and keep upgrading yourselves. He requested to approach the bank with project and if bank is convinced they will finance to become an entrepreneur and grow.
