The Thamizh Iyakkam urged the central government to make flight departure and landing announcements in Tamil at all the airports in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry here on Friday.
Addressing at the 147th birth anniversary of Tamil Scholar Maraimalai Adigal in the city, former AIADMK leader and Tamil Scholar Nanjil Sampath urged the central government to take steps to announce flight departure and landing information in Tamil at all the airports in Tamil Nadu (Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Thoothukudi, Tiruchirappalli and also at Puducherry).
In his presidential address, Kalviko Ko Viswanathan, VIT Chancellor laude the free education to those studying in government institutions too. He suggested the government to extend the free education to the students studying in private institutions also.
He said, “The need of the hour is to take urgent steps to improve the reading habit among the school/college going students, as the reading of newspapers and books by the students has dwindled due to the advent of electronic equipments.”.

Joint Commissioner of Police S Rajeswari (Grand daughter of freedom fighter Kakkan), Former State Information Commissioner Saradha Nambi Arooran (Grand daughter of Maraimalai Adigalar), Dr Manimekalai Kannan (Daughter of Tamil Scholar K A P Viswanatham), Uma Bharathi (Mahakavi Subramaniya Bharathi’s Sister’s Great Granddaughter), poet D S K Mayuri (former CM Kamaraj’s Sister’s granddaughter) lit the lamp to mark the inauguration of the meeting.
Former Member of Legislative Council Kalaimamani Muthulingam unveiled the portrait of Maraimalai Adigalar.
