The Department of Philosophy at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) is pleased to invite applications for the newly introduced Master’s programme in Indian Philosophy. This niche postgraduate programme is designed to accommodate students from different academic backgrounds and offers ample exposure to a variety of philosophical subjects. The programme is aimed at students who have completed their graduation or an equivalent degree and will offer professional opportunities in fields like teaching, research, translation, and publication, Digital Humanities, and computational linguistics, NGOs, art and cultural organisations, etc.
The programme’s highlights include:

Master’s in Indian Philosophy involves critical and interdisciplinary engagements with Indian philosophical discourses and introduces philosophizing as a skill set which students can incorporate in their approach (further studies/ research) to other academic fields, and as a professional competence necessary for diverse career pursuits. The duration of the course is two years and knowledge of Sanskrit is not a prerequisite.
Commenting on the programme, Srinivasa Acharya (Department Coordinator OR Head of the Department) said, “This program offers an intensive course of study which allows students to engage and employ theoretical and practical facets of philosophy and liberal arts. The main aim is to help students cultivate an understanding of Indian intellectual and cultural traditions. They will conduct interdisciplinary studies/ research in philosophy humanities and sciences, which will help them, engage in debates of social, moral, and intellectual importance. We are hoping the skills and knowledge they acquire here will not only benefit them in their professional pursuits but also help them understand the environment of the world that we are living in”

About the Department of Philosophy:
The Department of Philosophy is a constituent of the Faculty of Liberal Arts – Humanities and Social Sciences. It incorporates teaching and research activities in the areas of Humanities and Social Sciences through academic programs, projects, publications, and events. It is resolved to create an academic platform for philosophical practice in a diverse academic and professional environment. The Department has brought out a couple of scholarly translations and publications and is conducting interdisciplinary researches in the areas of philosophy, literature, digital humanities, and computational linguistics. With a team of young faculty members – who are the beneficiaries of globally prestigious Erasmus Plus teaching mobility and Raman Charpak research fellowships at European universities, it offers a two-year Master’s Programme in Indian Philosophy as well as a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Indian Philosophy, as of 2020. It also offers a variety of elective/certificate courses in multiple areas of Humanities at other MAHE constituent units.
