To drive home good governance, Ravichandran Ramasamy, IRS, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry unveiled the ‘Thiruvallur’ Statue at Income Tax Office Campus, 121, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai on Monday in the presence of the Veterans’-Retired Chief Commissioners of Income Tax, Senior Officers/Officials of the Department.

The ‘Pattimandram Fame’ S Raja, Bharathi Baskar and Perumal Sthapathi also graced the occasion.
- A verse from Thirukkural will be displayed everyday in a LED wall placed below the statue and suggested everyone to learn and to follow the same.

The idea of erecting ‘Thiruvalluvar’ statue in Income Tax Office Campus, Chennai was conceived by the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, TN & P, Ravichandran Ramasamy and the same was executed within a short span of three months. Perumal Sthapathi is the designer and architect of this statue and is a senior student of Padmashri Dr. Ganapathi Sthapathi, who sculpted the 133-Feet Thiruvalluvar statue at Kanyakumari.
The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, TN & P, Chennai in his special address stated that the ‘Thirukkural’ has become an integral part of our life. He quoted the Kural:
இயற்றலும் ஈட்டலுங் காத்தலும் காத்த
வகுத்தலும் வல்ல தரசு
where, Thiruvalluvar in a short couplet has explained how a government should collect tax, lay it up, guard and use it for the people’s welfare. Further, he stated that a verse from Thirukkural will be displayed everyday in a LED wall placed below the statue and suggested everyone to learn and to follow the same.
S Raja and Bharathi Baskar delivered a Special Talk on “Thirukkural through ages” (காலந்தோறும் திருக்குறள்) and explained how to make use of ‘Thirukkural’ to lead a perfect life in these modern days also. They insisted that a book of ‘THIRUKKURAL’ should be there in every home. It was a proud and historic moment to erect the statue of Thiruvalluvar, the philosopher and poet in the Income Tax Office campus, Chennai.
