A spacious three-storeyed pilgrim centre with a capacity to safely accommodate 900 pilgrim passengers has been opened at Kottayam Railway station under Thiruvananthapuram Division of Southern Railway on Monday.

V Muraleedharan Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Parliamentary Affairs inaugurated the Pilgrim Centre in the presence of MP(LS) Thomas Chazhikkadan; MP(RS) Jose K Mani; MLA(Kottayam) Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan; Nirmala Jimmy, District Panchayat President, Kottayam; Bincy Sebastian, Municipal Chairperson, Kottayam; Cincy Parel, Municipal Councillor; Ettumanur Radhakrishnan, Member, Passenger Services Committee other dignitaries and rail users.

At the inaugural function, R Mukund, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Thiruvananthapuram Division described the steps taken by railways for a safe and pleasant Mandala-Makaravilakku Sabarimala pilgrimage season this year. KSRTC bus services will be operated from Kottayam railway station premises, for the convenience of pilgrim passengers. RPF will ensure the safety and security of passengers. The Pilgrim Centre is expected to eliminate any chances of crowding on platforms. He also mentioned the new multi-level parking facility for two-wheelers, the unique Kerala traditional facade with thematic lighting and various passenger-oriented developmental works at Kottayam in his welcome address. Jerin Anand, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Thiruvananthapuram extended the vote of thanks.
