AHMEDABAD, DECEMBER 1
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot came down heavily on the Rupani government for not controlling spiralling prices of essential goods, free flow of illicit liquor or providing relief to farmers who lost their crops to unseasonal rains.
He was speaking at the ‘Jan Vedana’ rally organized by the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) in Ahmedabad, on Saturday. Gehlot blamed the BJP governments at the Centre and in Gujarat for runaway inflation, GDP growth falling to 4.5 percent and thousands of youths losing their jobs. In a political slugfest, Gehlot asked Rupani to “face the truth” about liquor intake in Gujarat and find a solution to it rather than take offence at the statement. Picking up the gauntlet, Rupani asked the Rajasthan Chief Minister to enforce prohibition in his home state.
Gehlot said the worsening condition across multiple fronts in India was not something that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah should take pride in.
He also said, “This is not acceptable. 4.5% GDP growth, people losing job, farmers not getting crop insurance and central agencies like the judiciary, CBI and Income Tax losing their independence has created an environment of fear in the country. Textile, diamond and auto sectors are facing severe slowdown. And the BJP leaders are least bothered about plight of the people.”
Gujarat in-charge Rajiv Satav, AICC spokesperson Shaktisinh Gohil, GPCC chief Amit Chavda, former GPCC chief Arjun Modhwadia and Patidar youth leader Hardik Patel were also present on the occasion.
Maharashtra MP Satav said BJP has lost people’s trust as is evident in Chattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh where the party has been ousted from power. “Where are the promised Rs 15 lakh to every citizen? Where are Acche Din? Farmers are not getting any crop insurance and private companies are being benefitted,” he said.
