Not many know this fact, but, Amit Trivedi was awarded the prestigious R. D. Burman Award for the film DevD. Coincidentally, this weekend on MX Player’s Times of Music – Amit Trivedi and Mohan Kannan & Koco of the band Agnee pay tribute to yesteryear legends R.D. Burman, S.D. Burman and Jaidev ji.
Episode 9 of Times of Music which is a special S.D Burman and Jaidev tribute episode will see Amit Trivedi reimagining Jaidev Ji’s song ‘Allah Tero Naam’ and Mohan Kannan & Koco of the band Agnee will be seen reimagining S.D. Burman’s ‘Roop Tera Mastana’.
Allah Tero Naam was a composition by Jaidevji in the 1961 film Hum Dono that was set in the times of World War II. The song speaks of how peace should prevail, no matter what. What made this episode even more special was the presence of CRPF officers as part of the live audience as well. After his performance for Allah Tero Naam was shot, Amit instantly teared up, remembering Jaidevji as well as pondering upon current times and the tremendous contribution made by these frontline warriors for their motherland.
Talking about his tribute Amit Trivedi says, “It’s really emotional because he (Shri. Ravindra Singh, D.I.G (CRPF)) is also here. It’s difficult to say anything. It’s that kind of song. First of all, thanks to the team because they helped me. The team told me that you can do ‘Allah Tero Naam’ and instantly I said, yes, this sounds beautiful and it’s emotional and it is the need of the hour, also. So ‘sabko sanmati de bhagwaan’ was relevant 60 years back, it will always be relevant. Both, (music, composition) and also the way Lataji has sung this, it’s just 10 on 10. It’s just so beautiful and maine thodi si jurrat ki to add my bit on it, so thodasa maine with the help of my friend Ozil Dalal, I just wrote that part.”
