Since the outbreak of Corona in early March, two Muslim political parties – Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) – have deployed volunteers across the state to carry out the last rites of COVID-19 victims as many of them were not even accepted by their near and dear ones.
The volunteers of these two outfits have been carrying out the last rites of the victims – irrespective of their caste and creed, according to their customs and faiths with dedication.
The two outfits so far have buried or cremated over 130 bodies of corona victims across the state as per the standard protocol of the government, said a statement issued by M.H. Jawahirullah, President, TMMK.
On many occasions, the police department directly approaches Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam to help them to carry out cremate or bury the corona victims.
The funeral services have been held by TMMK for about 58 people who died of the corona, including 48 from the Chennai region, 2 from Villupuram, 1 each from the Pernambut area in Tirupattur district, Trichy, Kayalpattinam in Tuticorin District, Aaarani in Tiruvannamalai district and Erode, respectively.
In addition to it, 68 orphaned people who died during the Corona curfew from different parts of Tamil Nadu, including 62 from the Chennai region, 2 each from Coimbatore, Udumalaipet and one each from Trichy and Madurai, have also been buried, the release added.
