CHENNAI, Nov 12

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who has been personally supervising the relief efforts, on Friday directed the special officers to expedite the relief efforts and also ensure quality food and medicine to flood-hit in Chennai and all over the state.

It has been raining incessantly in Chennai for the past few days. As many as 14 people lost their lives in Tamil Nadu rain fury, while over 75,000 police officers and other government authorities are on war footing to help citizens.

Amid the heavy downpour, the flood-hit neighbourhoods like Mudichur, Perungalathur and Nandivaram-Guduvancherry appeared like mini islands with little access to essential needs. Power supply, too, was disconnected from these neighbourhood.

Taking the view of the situation, Chief Minister MK Stalin directed officials, specially deputed to manage rain-related issues, in various districts to expedite the relief activities and ensure quality food and medical facilities in relief camps.

Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation, said on Friday, “A total of 620 pumps have been deployed in Chennai. In the last three days, 180 additional pumps were deployed to remove water from inundated areas.”

ICG deploys 5 teams to carry out flood relief operations in Chennai

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has deployed five Flood Relief Teams for carrying out flood relief operations in Chennai to render proactive assistance to those affected due to floods.

Meanwhile, ICG in coordination with Fisheries Dept also ensured safe return of all fishing boats of TN operating at sea prior to the landfall of the depression thereby achieving nil casualty at sea, says a Defence release.
