Tamil Nadu Medical and Family Welfare Minister Ma Subramanian inaugurated the Simulation Laboratory at the Apollo Specialty Hospital, Vanagaram in Chennai on Tuesday.
The Apollo Group has commissioned the Apollo Simulation Centre (ASC) for the benefit of medico’s who are undergoing PG courses as well the practicing experts. This is the first of its kind lab in India, claims the hospital.
Inaugurating the centre, Mr Subramanian lauded the health care services being rendered by the Apollo group for the last 38 years. He said the Apollo was in the forefront in inoculation of vaccines across Tamil Nadu. He also recalled that a special vaccination camp was organized in neighbouring Tiruvallore district two days ago in association with the Apollo Group as well as another one in Tiruchirappalli.

In her key-note address, Sudha Seshayyan, Vice Chancellor, The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University said that the simulation modules for PG Medical courses are under process. She said Simulation modules are already in the UG curriculum. Lauding the state-of-the-art and technologically advanced Apollo Simulation Centre (ASC), the Vice Chancellor said the ASC was a trend setter and appealed to the hospital management to indiginise it She also suggested adopting Artificial Intelligence for the well-being of the humanity.
A video of the message by the Chairman of Apollo Group of Hospitals Dr Pratap C Reddy screened at the inaugural function. In his address, Dr Reddy said, “Apollo is always ahead in bringing advance technology to India save precious lives.”

Dr Muralidharan, Director of Medical Education, Apollo Hospitals, Southern Region, said, “ASC’s sophisticated equipment and software can make patient care scenario more challenging by simulating a sudden unexpected complication or reaction to the participant’s intervention.”
He further added “We provide objective feedback to participants after the simulation, standardizing the learning experience. By implementing this learning, ASC will improve patient safety at the participating institutions.”
Apollo Simulation Centre (ASC) is the first of its kind post graduate simulation centre set up in India. This advanced simulation Centre has been equipped with state-of-art, hi-tech, hi-fidelity computerized Simulators that will provide hands-on training for post-graduate medical students as well as assist practicing doctors to refine their procedural skills. This is an absolute necessity during this pandemic, as it allows students to gain procedural skills and handle critical emergencies in safe and controlled environment.
The Centre, equipped with all essential equipment to simulate medical activities with adult, pediatric and obstetric mannequin without the involvement of patients. Participants will be guided through technical procedures such as challenging airway management, central line placement, and other surgical methods by task-trainers which represent specific anatomical systems.
