Tamil Nadu Information and Technology Minister Mano Thangaraj on Saturday said Tamils from over 60 countries have shown keen interest in making investments in Tamil Nadu to make it US $ one trillion economy by 2030.

He was speaking at the fourth edition of ‘The Rise: Global Summit of Tamil Entrepreneurs & Professionals’ held from Thursday to Saturday – May 5 to 7 at the Fairfield Halls Conference Centre, London. The event was organised to aid the goal of the Tamil Nadu government, in transforming the state into a one trillion $ economy by 2030.

This summit saw the participation of Tamil entrepreneurs and professionals from over 60 countries, including America, Canada, European countries and also from Zambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Mexico, Turkey, Iraq. Elcot executive director Ajay Yadav also took part in this summit.

Many Tamil entrepreneurs around the world have shown keen interest in investing in Tamil Nadu. On behalf of Government of Tamil Nadu Information Technology Minister Mano Thangaraj wooed them with bouquet of offers. The minister held a meeting with Gopalakrishnan, Chairman & CEO, Nanban Group of Companies on the sidelines of the summit.

The Nanban Group has offered to make a whopping Rs 10,000 crore investment in Tamil Nadu. It sought a conducive atmosphere, identification of sectors needing investments under single-window system with ease of doing business.

One of the principal leaders of The RISE, Canada Chapter, Stan Muthulingam, announced that his body would bring a delegation of over 150 industries and business houses interested in making investments in TN provided the state government was willing to welcome it. Further the delegation would be led by the Canadian minister in-charge of business and industry during the ensuing Pongal festival.
TN Chief Minister MK Stalin is scheduled to take part in the Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America, FeTNA in July. It will facilitate the meeting of over 50 Tamil entrepreneurs those who are keen in investing in TN as well as creating job opportunities in Northeast Sri Lanka and TN. An announcement in this regard was made in the London summit.
Working president of UAE-based ATDXT GS Murthy announced that it would invest US $20 million to set up a data protection centre in Tamil Nadu for digital innovation.
To help marketing the products and services of Tamil entrepreneurs worldwide, including Tamil Nadu, northeast Lanka’s hilly trains, Malaysia and Singapore in digitisation, Pranavan Sambunathan from Canada said he would invest US $ 10 billion.

Aiming to popularise and promote the traditional self-defence art forms like silambam, kalarypayattu and varmam worldwide, it has been decided to work in tandem with the TN Government for the inclusion of the silambam, kalarypayattu in the Olympics games by 2036. Rs 3 crore fund was raised in five minutes in this summit.
The RISE participants have signed over 250 MoUs worth over Rs 1,500 crore in this summit.
They have also decided to raise US $ 100 billion fund within three years to promote organic farming in Tamil Nadu, hilly terrains of Sri Lanka and Northeast Lanka, Malaysia and Miyanmar which have considerable Tamil population. This fund will be utilised to push organic products in the global market and will come into operation after three years.
US $ 1 million for women empowerment
Nanban Group has announced the institution of US $ one million fund to form ‘The Federation of Global Tamil Women’. This forum will create thousands of Tamil woman entrepreneurs who in turn will promote and market quality organic foods produced by Tamils as well as SME entrepreneurs. This was announced in the presence of Minister Mano Thangaraj.
The Minister released an English book titled “Journey of A Civilisation: Indus to Vaigai” written by former Additional Chief Secretary to Odisha Government R Balakrishnan, IAS, a researcher on Sindhu Valley civilisation.
The summit has assured former Additional Chief Secretary to Odisha Government R Balakrishnan, IAS to donate Rs 50 lakh fund to Roja Muthiah Documentation Safety Body. This will help the later to continue its digitisation efforts of over four lakh Tamil books.
It has been decided to bring about 50 IT firms run by Tamils under one platform in the ensuing global IT entrepreneurs summit to be hosted by Tamil Nadu IT and Digital Department and ELCOT in September. As a precursor to this, a new body ‘Aatarl’ was formed in this summit.
The next edition of the RISE will be held in Dubai in November this year.
