Tamil Nadu Minister for Water Resources Organisation Durai Murugan will inaugurate the 10th World Tamils Economic Conference and Global Economic Summit in Chennai on Tuesday (January 9).
Addressing reporters, VRS Sampath, founder-president, World Tamils Economic Foundation said the two-day conference and summit organized by the Madras Development Society and World Tamils Economic Foundation, would also have the ‘Crown Jewel of World Tamils’ award conferred on 12 prominent Tamil personalities for their contributions to the socio-economic development and welfare of the Tamil community.

- To mark the centenary of former Chief Minister and DMK Patriarch M Karunanidhi, a special session has also been organized to bring out his contributions to the economic development of Tamils and the State
- V Mahalingam, former Ambassador to Guyana, Justice TN Vallinayagam, former Madras High Court judge and over six ministers from Tamil Nadu are expected to participate in the conference
Over 50 speakers are expected to present papers in various sessions, including the global economic situation – opportunities and challenges; start-ups and innovative projects; funding and financial assistance; opportunities in healthcare projects and IT; communication and artificial intelligence, and women empowerment through education and entrepreneurship.
To mark the centenary of former Chief Minister and DMK Patriarch M. Karunanidhi, a special session has also been organized to bring out his contributions to the economic development of Tamils and the State, Dr Sampath added.
V Mahalingam, former Ambassador to Guyana, Justice TN Vallinayagam, former Madras High Court judge and over six ministers from Tamil Nadu are expected to participate in the conference.
Over 300 delegates from across the country and abroad are expected to participate in the conference.
As the WTEC and the summit has been organized in between the Global Investors Meet (GIM) and Pravasi Tamils Conference organized by the Tamil Nadu Government, the delegates who attend these two conference can combine with WTEC, Dr Sampath added.
VG Santhosam, Chairman, VGP Group of companies, Chairman of the Haj Association of India A. Aboobucker, Chozha Nachiyar Rajasekar, President of the Tamil Chamber of Commerce were also present at the press conference.
