Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry R Ravichandran, IRS unfurled the National Flag at its headquarters here to mark the 74th Republic Day.
In his address, R Ravichandran recollected the sacrifices of the Tamil freedom fighters like Pulithevar, Veerapandiya Kattabomman, Maruthu brothers, Maaveeran Azhumuthu Kone, Theeran Chinnamalai, Vanchinathan, Subramania Siva, and VO Chidambaranar and Velu Nachiyar towards the Indian independence.
- Inaugurates “Solai”-Micro forest which has various indigenous plant species like Magizham, Malai Vembu, Nagalingam, Maramalli, Venmaruthu, Naval Maram, and other tree saplings near “Agaram” Quarters in the Income tax Office campus, Nungambakkam, Chennai
- Tamil Nadu is the 2nd largest in the economy in the country next to Maharashtra and in 3 years India will be the largest economy in the world and Tamil Nadu will be the largest GDP contributor in the country: R Ravichandran
According to him, “Tamil Nadu is the 2nd largest in the economy in the country next to Maharashtra and in 3 years India will be the largest economy in the world and Tamil Nadu will be the largest GDP contributor in the country. As far as budget is concerned, target for TN & P region has been fixed at Rs 1,08,000 crores and we have collected Rs 85,000 crores which is about 75% of the budget. In respect of refunds, this year Rs 13,000 crores of refund has been issued to the taxpayers as against Rs 9,000 crores compared to last year which is in increase of about 40%.”

“Advance tax growth is 25% more than the national average of 18% and TDS growth is 36% more than the national average of 25%. Tamil Nadu is the 3rd largest growing region in the country after Delhi and Bengaluru and we are the 4th largest contributor after Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. This year the Central Government is going to fill about 10 Lakh jobs and in Income Tax Department about 25,000 jobs is to be filled. In Tamil Nadu & Puducherry region, 1200 jobs is to be filled this year and we have completed 3 Rozgar Mela and have recruited 210 people and were given the appointment orders. Before the end of March this year around 510 Multi Tasking Staff will be recruited, with that 80% of the jobs will be filled,” Ravichandran added.
As a part of the celebration, cultural programme was performed by the Indian Classical Vocal Duo Smt. Ranjani and Smt. Gayatri and their team. Soulful rendition of Carnatic and classical songs was performed.
On this occasion, R Ravichandran, IRS, PR. CCIT, TN&P felicitated the Officers and Officials who did exemplary work by awarding them with medal and certificate for their distinguished service. On the same occasion, Officers and officials who involved themselves and contributed significantly in the Special campaign for ‘Swatchhta 2.0’ in the Income tax Offices of TN & P region were felicitated. Certificates were also issued to the winners of various competitions held during the Vigilance Awareness Week.
During the day, Pr CCIT, TN&P inaugurated the renovated “Agathiar Mooligai Thottam” (Herbal Garden) containing various species such as Thippili, Sitharathai, Thulasi, Vasambu, Karpooravalli etc., near Wanaparthy Block, Income Tax Office, Nungambakkam, Chennai.
He also inaugurated “Solai”-Micro forest which has various indigenous plant species like Magizham, Malai Vembu, Nagalingam, Maramalli, Venmaruthu, Naval Maram, and other tree saplings near “Agaram” Quarters in the Income tax Office campus, Nungambakkam, Chennai. During the occasion, the Pr. CCIT and other retired/senior Officers also planted various saplings.
Retired Chief Commissioners of Income Tax, Senior Officers, Officials and family members of the Income Tax fraternity graced the occasion, the IT Department statement said.
