Tamil Nadu on Tuesday recorded 2,146 new COVID-19 infections, pushing the tally to 7,48,225, while the death toll mounted to 11,387 with 25 more fatalities.
Recoveries continued to eclipse new cases with 2,237 people getting cured today, totalling 7,18,129 people recovering from the disease, a health department bulletin said.
Active cases in the State stood at 18,709.
The testing of samples was at 72,257 while the overall specimens examined so far were at 1,07,09,256.
Of the 7.48 lakh cases, Chennai accounted for 2,06,024 with 577 new infections reported today. Of the death toll, Chennai has accounted for 3,734 fatalities, the bulletin said.
Coimbatore recorded 196 fresh infections, Thiruvallur 107, Chengalpet 104, and Salem, which has been recording new cases in triple digits, reported 97.
Ramanathapuram recorded the least with three new cases.
Among the dead, three were without co-morbidities or chronic illness.
With co-morbidities, a 38-year-old man from neighbouring Chengalpet died at the government general hospital in the city.
