Tamil Nadu on Tuesday reported 5,406 recoveries while 5,337 new COVID cases were recorded, taking the caseload to 5,52,674. The death toll mounted to 8,947 with an addition of 76 more fatalities.
With 5,406 patients getting discharged from various hospitals, the recoveries outnumbered fresh cases and 4,97,377 is the aggregate number of people who have got cured of COVID in Tamil Nadu as on date.
The active cases continued to be below the 50,000 mark at 46,350.
The fresh infections include Chennai’s 989, Coimbatore 595, Tirupur 368, Salem 291 and Cuddalore 233, a health department bulletin said.
Of the 5.52 lakh plus infections, Chennai shared 1,57,614, Chengelpet 33,030, Tiruvallur 30,582, Coimbatore 27,157, Kancheepuram 20,803.
Of the total 8,947 deaths, Chennai accounted for 3091, Chengelpet 526, Tiruvallur 524 and Coimbatore 392.
Those dead include a man and woman, both aged 34, and in total 69 had co-morbidities and seven had no chronic illnesses.
The samples being tested (RT-PCR) continued to be above 80,000 and on Tuesday alone 84,730 samples were tested. Cumulatively, 66,40,058 specimens have been examined.
