Tamil Nadu on Friday recorded 3,057 fresh COVID-19 cases and 33 more deaths, taking the infection count to 7,03,250 and toll to 10,858, the health department said on Friday.
Recoveries continued to outnumber the fresh infections as 4,262 people walked out of health care facilities after treatment aggregating to 6,59,432 till date, a bulletin said.
Active cases, including those in isolation, stood at 32,960. Testing of samples on Friday stood at 81,472 with the total specimens getting examined going up to 93,56,580 till date.
Tamil Nadu does not use Rapid Antigen Diagnostic Tests (RADT) and all the tests are RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction based).
A private lab in Madurai was accorded approval for conducting COVID-19 tests, taking the total number of facilities operating in the state to 198.
Among districts Chennai leads in the number of infections with 844 people contracting the virus followed by Coimbatore 280, Chengalpet 186, Salem 185, Thiruvallur 168, Tiruppur 130, Erode 106.
Perambalur was the least in the number of fresh infections with five people testing COVID-19 positive.
With 844 fresh cases,Chennai’s tally mounted to 1,94,139 adding to the State’s over 7.03 lakh cases.
Among the 33 deceased, three of them were without co-morbidities or ”chronic illness” which include a 53-year-old woman from the city who was brought dead to the Government Medical College here.
She died on October 20 and had tested positive on October 18.
Twenty-four of the deceased were above 60, the bulletin said.
As many as 3,580 people from Chennai have died contributing to the State’s COVID death toll of 10,858 till date.
