In solidarity with the Prime Minister’s call to light the lamp to fight against Coronavirus between 9 p.m. and 9.09 p.m, fireworks reverberated the air, lights from earthen lamps, candles and torches lit up the skies of Tamil Nadu on Sunday night.

Governor Banwarilal Purohit lit a candle after switching off lights of the Raj Bhavan here for nine minutes.
‘As per the appeal of the Prime Minister, Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Tamil Nadu, lit a candle after switching of lights of Raj Bhavan, Chennai for 9 minutes from 9 pm today. Secretary to Governor and other officers also joined the Governor in this fight against Covid-19,’ a Raj Bhavan release said.
Chief Minister K Palaniswami, while maintaining distance with other members of his family and officials, lit an earthen lamp at his residence.

Deputy Chief Minister K Pannerselvam, Tamil Nadu Ministers including S P Velumani and K Pandiarajan lit lamps in their respective residences here.
Superstar Rajinikanth was among the celebrities who joined the symbolic event against the contagion and he held a candle in his Poes Garden residence.

Several young men burst crackers and lit up skies using a variety of fireworks here. People came out to balconies and terraces of their residences and shone light from their mobile phones after turning off lights at their houses.
Several lit up the traditional ‘Kamakshi lamps’ and ‘Kuthuvilakku’, besides the earthen lamps.
The terraces of several buildings were lined up with endless rows of earthen lamps which was nothing short of a visual treat.

Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi and Chief Minister V Narayanasamy were among those who switched off lights and lit lamps at their home in response to the Prime Minister’s call to show ‘collective resolve’ to beat the COVID 19 here on Sunday.
They held lamps at their respective places for nine minutes from 9 p.m.
Policemen on duty at various centres also lit lamps in response to the call given by the PM.
Almost all the residents of the Union Territory turned off the power lights and lit the earthenware lamps or held torches while some used flash lights of their mobile phones.
