The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) on Sunday came up with the initiative to pay a one-time settlement or ex gratia to former cricketers, match referees, and ground staff affiliated with Tamil Nadu Cricket Association who have not received the same from the BCCI. The proposed scheme was implemented during season 5 of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (2021).
A portion of the proceeds from the TNPL 2021 will be provided to these heroes. A one-time payment of Rs 5 lakh from the TNPL proceeds will be provided to the subject personnel each as a one-time stipend from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.
Speaking about the scheme, the secretary of the TNCA, RS Ramasamy said, “This scheme is implemented to aid the ex-members who have worked for our association. My sincere thanks to all the association members who have joined us in supporting it.”
The people of honour include
K B RAMASWAMY – A respected former Test umpire, Ramaswamy has officiated eight Test matches between 1976 and 1983 and two ODIs in 1982.
B RAJASEGARAN – popularly called as B R SEKHAR – A former first-class player who represented Tamil Nadu in 14 first-class matches between 1960–81 and 1967–68. He also has the honour of founding the Nilgiri District Cricket Association.
B KALYANASUNDARAM – He was a part of the Tamil Nadu team that finished runners-up in the 1972-73 Ranji Trophy. He is also renowned for his hat-trick in the final against Mumbai (then Bombay), which was the first feat in a Ranji final.
Dr HD BALLAL – He represented Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy and played 9 first-class matches between 1963 and 1966.
T KARUNAMOORTHY – He played four first-class matches and 6 List A matches for Tamil Nadu between 1995 and 1997. He also served as a member of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s Cricket Advisory Committee, senior selector, and coach.
