The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) on Thursday announced the revival of All India Buchi Babu Invitation Cricket Tournament. It will be held from August 15 to September 11. The last edition of the tournament was held in the 2016-2017 domestic season.

“The revival of Buchi Babu is important for the revival of First-Class cricket. I am happy that TNCA is reviving it as a four-day format as it is the stepping stone into big league cricket,” said Srikkanth.

TNCA Honorary Secretary R I Palani said, “For the first time, the tournament is being conducted out of Chennai, as the M A Chidambaram stadium is under preparation for the forthcoming World Cup and ongoing First Division League matches. The matches will be held in Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Salem and Natham. The final will be held in Coimbatore. This would also give the spectators at the district venues to have a glimpse of the best talent in the country in action.’’
For the first time, the tournament is conducted in a 4-Day format which would be a perfect preparation for the oncoming season. The prize money for the winners and runners-up will be Rs 3 Lakhs and Rs 2 Lakhs respectively. The Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament will receive Rs 10,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
Ten State teams have been invited to compete in the prize money tournament from different parts of the country along with two local outfits — TNCA President’s XI and TNCA XI. The 12 teams have been divided into four groups with three teams each. The top teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.

Introducing the tournament cup, K Srikanth said that TNCA is one of the best associations in the nation and the world. He also appealed the Take Sports management to sponsor all the satellite centres of TNCA and its readily accepted by H R Srinivasan, Take Sports Management Pvt Limited in the presence of Dr D Ravi, Chairman of Buchi Babu Cricket Tournament, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan, TNCA President Ashok Sigamani, Hon Treasurer T J Srinivasraj.
