Left-arm spinner and all-rounder R Sai Kishore and Sanjay Yadav R became the most expensive players in the Shriram Capital Tamil Nadu Premier League history on Wednesday. The left-arm bowler was bagged for Rs 22 lakh by Tiruppur Tamizhans, after a close bidding war. Soon after Sai Kishore went at that price, Sanjay Yadav R bagged the same price and was sold to Trichy Grand Cholas for Rs 22 lakh as well. They were followed by Harish Kumar (15.40 lakhs) and Abhishek Tanwar (12.20 lakhs) as the other high bids of the day.

The grand auction of the Shriram Capital Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) for the year 2024 concluded successfully at the Kalaingar M. Karunanidhi Stand lobby within the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, Chepauk, Chennai. The auction, divided into four categories, saw the participation of a total of 144 players.

The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, a significant contributor to the growth of Indian cricket, created TNPL as a major initiative to identify talented youngsters from various districts and take Tamil Nadu cricket to the next level. The player selection for this 8th season of TNPL, like last year, was conducted through an auction.

In Wednesday’s auction, each of the 8 participating teams, having already retained several players, competed vigorously to fill the spots of released players. Under the four categories, a total of 144 players participated in the auction. Notably, left-arm spinner and all-rounder Sai Kishore, listed in category A, was acquired by iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans for a record-breaking Rs 22 lakhs. They also secured left-arm seamer and IPL- star, Thangarasu Natarajan for Rs 11.25 lakhs. Dindigul Dragons, led by Ravichandran Ashwin, bought Sandeep Warrier for Rs 10.50 lakhs.
In category B, prominent all-rounder Sanjay Yadav was bought by Trichy Grand Cholas for Rs 22 lakhs, matching the record set by Sai Kishore. Harish Kumar was acquired by Salem Spartans for Rs 15.60 lakhs, while Chepauk Super Gillies bought Abhishek Tanwar for Rs 12.20 lakhs.

The auction, led by renowned cricket commentator Charu Sharma, was graced by the presence of former BCCI & ICC Chairman and Chennai Super Kings owner, Mr. N. Srinivasan.
Ravichandran Ashwin of Dindigul Dragons and Shahrukh Khan, captain of the reigning champions Lyca Kovai Kings, were among the key figures at the auction. The Trichy team, now rebranded as Trichy Grand Cholas, entered the auction with renewed vigor.
The auction of the Shriram Capital Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), comparable to the world-renowned IPL in terms of excitement and fervor, proceeded without any shortfall in enthusiasm and intensity. Just like the battle for victory on the field, the owners of each team were deeply engrossed in the auction, visibly strategizing to build strong teams.”
In a statement by Shahrukh Khan, the captain of Lyca Kovai Kings, the current champions who have won the title twice in a row in the Shriram Capital Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), said, “This auction allows us to discover numerous talented players from various districts. Additionally, the TNPL serves as the perfect platform for these players to showcase their skills.”

Shivnathi Adithan, owner of Chepauk Super Gillies, remarked, “Sai Kishore being bought by iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans was a significant moment. The unexpected lower bid for Silambarasan shows that not everything goes as planned in auctions, much like cricket.”
iDream R. Murthy, MLA and owner of iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, after acquiring players like Vijay Shankar, Sai Kishore, and Natarajan, said, “Our team is now stronger with three IPL players. In TNPL, Sai Kishore is the number one player, so buying him for 22 lakhs is a justified decision.”

In his statement following the TNPL auction, Sai Kishore, who was bought by the iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans at a record price, expressed, “I am extremely happy to be picked again by the Tiruppur team. I also extend my best wishes to the other teams that participated in the auction. I am eagerly looking forward to competing in the upcoming TNPL season.”
Gopinath, the owner of the Trichy Grand Cholas team, commented on the auction, saying, “We have picked many talented players in the auction for our team. As our team is a mix of experienced players and young talents, we are hopeful and confident of performing exceptionally well in the upcoming season.”

The owner of Dindigul Dragons HR Srinivasan stated, “The primary objective of the TNPL series is to identify young players and nurture their talents. Certainly, many young players will get their opportunities in the coming seasons.”
KB Arun Karthik, captain of the Nellai Royal Kings, said in his statement, “Last year, many young players performed exceptionally well in our team. This time, in the auction, along with Mohith and Silambarasan, we have picked several new faces like Gohulamoorthi, Gowtham, Abilash, and Kirubakar.”

Subramania Siva from the Salem Spartans management team stated, “We have acquired several explosive all-rounders in the auction. Ambidextrous bowler Tarun Kumar is expected to be a highly anticipated player in the upcoming season.”

Mahesh, Director of Siechem Madurai Panthers, remarked, “The young player Akram Khan, whom we picked in the auction, is a very aggressive player. Like everyone else, our team is eagerly looking forward to seeing his performance. Additionally, several players in our team already have TNPL experience, which makes our team balanced at present.”
Sanjay Kumbhat, Chairman of TNPL, stated, “The journey that Mr. N.Srinivasan started in 2016 has now seen tremendous growth. It’s undeniable that TNPL has elevated Tamil Nadu cricket to a new level.”
In the Tamil Nadu Premier League, owners of each team engaged wholeheartedly in today’s auction, meticulously strategizing to build quality teams in pursuit of clinching the trophy.
