A TNSTC conductor was on Sunday placed under suspension on the charge of pocketing cash he made from issuing to male passengers free tickets meant for women, police said.
The Tamil Nadu government had introduced free tickets for women travelling by State-run buses. According to the police, 26 men boarded the bus running from the Salem Railway Station to the Old Bus Stand and the conductor issued them the free tickets.
Ticket examiners from the Transport Department on a surprise check detected the fraud and suspended the conductor, the police said. The passengers were all from North, they added.
