Dr Alam said the IIP also offering MSc and Post Graduate Diploma Course in association with the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad.
Dr Alam said, as per the report of Exim Bank 2020, availability of skilled manpower has been a continuous challenge for the labour intensive packaging industry. As per the industry sources, more than 35,000 packaging experts are required currently for the Indian packaging industry, while only 1.5% of the demand is produced each year in the country. The lack of skilled manpower is often also observed at the top management positions in the industry largely due to the dearth of skilled packaging professionals.
Dr Alam explained in detail about the need of proper packaging, as it is the need of the hour to reach out Indian products to overseas consumers. The IIP is taking all out efforts to design packaging perishable products without using any preservative and improve the shelf life till it reaches the end customers globally.
He said, ‘’IIP also identified 75 traditional products from across India for improving their packaging, as per international standards. This initiative is part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, India @ 75 years of independence” and it is being implemented in all the States and UTs of India.
Under this programme, the Tamil Nadu government has chosen – Trichy Banana (Malai Vazhaipazham), Krishnagiri Mango, Thanjavur doll, Srivilliputhur Palkova and Kovilpatti Kadalaimittai.
IIP is working on developing world-class packaging of these products by collaborating with all the stakeholders.
