With rising awareness among the corporate and the common men, the trend of dumping the E-waste is tilting towards its recycling. And 90 percent of the E-waste is handled by scrap merchants in the unorganized sector, said a top official of the RPlanet Integrated Solution Pvt Ltd.
Speaking to navjeevanexpress.com, company managing director Manoj Sahu said, “RPlanet is Gujarat’s biggest company dedicated to recycling of metals E-waste to produce products using a unique mechanism. The city-based company is recovering metals such as copper, aluminum, silver, gold, and other metals from the discarded electronics products. The company is making recycling of 20,000 metric tons of E-waste per annum. The recycling process is being done at the company’s plant located in Dehgam while it has E-waste collection centres at Himmatnagar, Rajkot, Vadodara, and Vapi cities of Gujarat.
“The company annual turnover has crossed the mark of Rs. 50-Crore. Taking into consideration the current rising ratio of the E-waste in India, it is estimated to cross the mark of 1.72 million tons by the end of year. India is producing the E-waste at the average rate of 0.8 million tons per annum,” Sahu added.
In the coming years, it is likely to increase the E-waste at the rate of 20 percent. Only 4.5 percent of E-waste is being recycled in India. So far, the standard mechanism has not been set up for E-waste in India. Not only this, every year 50,000 tons of E-waste is being imported into India. The significant point is that mobile phones alone are likely to increase E-waste in India by 18 times by the end of year 2020.
At present, the RPlanet’s capacity to handle the E-waste is 11,500 metric tons per annum and with third–party support its present capacity is 12,500 metric tons per annum. Now, the company is marching ahead to increase its capacity to 30,000 metric tons.
The company is targeting to take its annual turnover above Rs. 108-crore by end of year 2020-21. At present India’s electronic consumption is worth of Rs. 500-crore. According to a study conducted by the R Plant for the prevention of E-waste indicates that India’s average E-waste per head is 5.5 kg.
According to a web-based application of the company, India’s present market size is worth of Rs. 3,200-crore. This is one of its kind online markets from the company. It has CAGR growth rate is 32 percent. This market place is working on the base of B2B, B2C, C2C, and C2B. The customer sales channel is being connected by the director; similar to the corporate giants such as Panasonic, Godrej, Whirlpool, Samsung, Epson, Hitachi, LG, Essar, and others.
In the E-waste, collection channel includes more than 1,000 unorganized scrap merchants. Besides them, the company is also connected with NGO schools and educational institutes and more than 200 wholesale customers.
