The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has decided to actively take part in the mission of COVID Vaccination programme rolled out by Government of India.

In a release issued by Dr JA Jayalal, National President, Indian Medical Association has appealed all its 3.5 lakh members in 1,800 local branches to voluntarily come out to get vaccinated first to show the world that these vaccines are safe and efficacious.
He said the IMA recognizes the great services of the healthcare team, including nurses, para-medical personnel, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, hospital support colleagues, ambulance team and all other healthcare workers who have contributed in this corona control programme.
“It is the time to honor them with protective Covid vaccination. As a Captain of healthcare team, we request all our branches of IMA and all members to ensure that all our healthcare teams are getting the priority vaccination,” Dr Jayalal said.
Indian Medical Association appreciates and congratulates the hard works of Indian Scientists, Modern Medicine Doctors and the government for bringing out two Indian Vaccines against SARS Covid-19.

Good protective levels of antibodies have been found to develop with our Indian Vaccines against current strain and new mutated strains. These vaccines are practically easy to store and used in the Indian condition.
India is heading towards becoming superpower with Research and Development in the field of modern medicine. IMA rightfully stands firm as the natural and professional stakeholder in this achievement not only in the development of the vaccine but also in delivering the vaccine, he added.
All infrastructure facilities of IMA branches across the country will be available voluntarily for this vaccination programme and all our members of Indian Medical Association will voluntarily serve with technical and supportive manpower, the president said.
IMA believes getting the vaccination is not only to protect the individual but also to brings herd immunity to the community thereby raising the hope to control the corona pandemic.
Dr Jayalal urged all IMA State and local branches to pro-actively meet the District Officials and concerned authorities of their respective states /branches and extend all possible help in the process of planning and implementation of Covid Vaccination Programme.
We stand with the scientists to endorse the safety and efficacy of both these vaccines, so public awareness and countering with myths on vaccine percolating in social media shall be our priority.
Our Modern Medicine Doctors will vouch for the safety, quality and professionalism in this difficult time and support the emergency approval for the usage of Vaccines, he said.
However, the IMA appeals to the public even after vaccination, to adhere to the COVID appropriate behavior like masks, physical distancing, hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene.
Indian Medical Association HQs has also constituted a Pharmaco Vigilance Centre in IMA HQs Building, New Delhi for monitoring post-vaccination reactions and render appropriate support.
The IMA also look forward to having a smooth, hassle-free, effective vaccination delivery system in our motherland, Dr. Jayalal added.
