As fast-paced as Tokyo’s innovation is, the city is devoted to preserving tradition through its historical gardens, shrines, and temples. This includes Asakusa, one of the most famous tourist destinations in the capital, “Senso-ji”, the oldest temple in Tokyo with a history of over 1300 years and over 30 million tourists annually, as well as “Tokyo Station Marunouchi Building”, which opened in 1914 and has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

As a world-class city, Tokyo boasts the world’s tallest free-standing broadcasting tower with a height of 634m; “TOKYO SKYTREE®” as certified by Guinness Book of World Records; the world’s most famous Shibuya Crossing, popular with even foreign tourists; Omotesando and Harajuku, the epicenters of fashion; as well as Ginza, where top-class goods from all over the world are gathered.

Speaking on the occasion, Masako Ono, Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) Ambassador in India said “We see great potential in Chennai to promote tourism in Tokyo as like Tokyo Chennai is also a City steeped in rich heritage and culture and preserving its age-old traditions. Tokyo offers everything to everyone, from Millennials to Gen-X; year-round festivals, Art, Theatre, Music, Sporting events, World-class Cuisine and shopping.  Tokyo Tourism caters to the different passion points of wide array of travellers and we look forward to welcoming more visitors from India.”

Tokyo’s 400-year-old tradition along with innovation continues to co-exist by enriching one another and creating new value. In 2019, 31.88 Million international tourists visited Japan. About 70% of the tourists come from East Asia such – China, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, and about 13% come from Thailand, Singapore, and other Southeast Asia. The City will also host the 2020 summer Olympics, one of the biggest sporting extravaganza in the world, officials of TCVB said.
