ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), the globally recognised professional accountancy body, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), has announced a Case Writing Competition in Finance & Accounting, inviting extended abstracts for an intensive case development programme. The initiative aims to strengthen industry–academia collaboration and promote high-quality, research-driven teaching cases that reflect real-world business decision-making.
The competition focuses on contemporary and emerging themes including finance, accounting, sustainability, governance, ethics, AI-led transformation, innovation and strategic leadership, offering academicians a rare opportunity to convert practical business challenges into impactful classroom resources.
A Platform for High-Impact Academic Case Development
As part of this initiative, ACCA and IIM Ahmedabad have opened the Call for Extended Abstracts for the Case Writing Workshop in Finance & Accounting. Participants are invited to submit original case proposals grounded in real business contexts.
Selected authors will be invited to a three-day, in-person workshop at IIM Ahmedabad, where they will receive structured mentoring from experienced faculty members and case experts, collaborative peer learning opportunities, and guidance on shaping their work for academic recognition and publication.
The programme is designed for doctoral candidates, post-doctoral researchers, and early-career faculty members (post-PhD with up to 10 years of experience) from leading institutions, providing a focused and supportive environment to develop, refine and publish high-impact teaching cases.
Anchored in Think Ahead: Preparing Future-Ready Finance Professionals
The competition seeks to encourage the creation of original teaching cases rooted in real-world business challenges, enriching pedagogy and strengthening experiential learning in finance and accounting education. Anchored in ACCA’s Think Ahead philosophy, the initiative reinforces ACCA’s commitment to future-focused learning, ensuring that finance professionals are equipped to navigate a complex, technology-driven and sustainability-conscious business landscape.
Speaking on the collaboration, Mohammed Sajid Khan, Director – India, ACCA, said, “Our collaboration with IIM Ahmedabad on this case-writing competition reflects a shared commitment to strengthening how business education connects theory with real-world decision-making. Well-crafted business cases play a critical role in helping students move beyond textbooks sharpening judgment, contextual thinking, and the ability to apply knowledge in practical situations. By recognising and further developing case-writing capabilities among academicians, we are investing in learning experiences that better reflect the realities employers expect graduates to be prepared for.”
Mentorship, Publication and Recognition at IIM Ahmedabad
Highlighting the academic value of the workshop, Neerav Nagar, Associate Professor, IIM Ahmedabad, said, “This workshop invites researchers to transform real-world finance and accounting challenges into thoughtful, practice-oriented teaching cases that will enrich classroom learning. With guidance from experienced mentors and collaborative learning, the workshop offers a strong platform for authors to refine their ideas and share them with a wider academic community, creating meaningful contributions in the field of finance and accounting.”
