Two vegetable vendors were killed and 10 others injured after a minivan overturned in the early morning near Gummidipoondi on Saturday. The vendors were returning to Sathiyavedu after buying produce from Koyambedu market when the accident occurred.
Police said Parandhaman, 60, of M N Kandigai village near Sathyavedu and Sekar, 55, of Alamelumangapuram, died on the way to the hospital.
“The driver Kotteswaran, who was also injured in the accident, lost control of the vehicle while crossing Kavarapettai, resulting in the minivan overturning on the road,” a police officer said. Passersby rescued the victims and sent them to Ponneri government hospital. Gummidipoondi police have registered a case and are investigating.
