Union Minister of State for Textiles Darshana Vikram Jardosh on Saturday attended various events related to her ministry in Chennai. The Minister inaugurated the ‘NESAVU 2022’ Handloom Exhibition.
In an endeavor to promote Indian handlooms products and the spirit of craftsmanship, Central Cottage Industries Corporation (CCIC) is holding “NESAVU 2022” – an Handloom Expo featuring products handcrafted by weavers and master weavers.
The expo is being held from April 2 to 12 in its showroom at Temple Tower, 672, Anna Salai, Nandanam, Chennai, from 10:30 am to 8:00 pm.
This exhibition is sponsored by Office of Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India. CCIC is the sole Central Government organisation marketing finest Indian Handicrafts and Handlooms from all over India through its Emporia in New Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Secunderabad, Gujarat and Chennai.
CCIC is having a fully air-conditioned emporium of 13,000 Sq.ft at Temple Tower, Nandanam, Chennai. The exhibition will showcase exclusive handwoven Sarees, Shawls, Fabrics, Apparels, Accessories, Furnishing, Home Linen and much more from different parts of the country, with the assurance of authenticity, quality and value for money.
India has a rich and diverse textile heritage. The expo provides a glimpse of this marvel and also a platform for the cultural and artistic interchange between weavers and art patrons. The main motto is to encourage visitors to wear Handlooms with pride and to adopt Handloom products in their daily lives. Such initiatives will promote the Indian weavers and textile artists by sustaining their livelihood and providing them with more marketing opportunities and making Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Union Minister attends convocation of National Institute of Fashion Technology in Chennai

Minister of State for Textiles and Railways Darshana Vikram Jardosh on Saturday attended the 10th Graduation Ceremony of the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Chennai.
Darshana Vikram Jardosh attended the event as the chief guest and addressed the young graduates.
She later conferred degrees on 268 students in various disciplines. The Minister also presented gold medals, cash prizes and certificates to those who excelled.
Handicrafts Development Commissioner and National Institute of Fashion Technology Director General Shantmanu addressed the students at the event. Director Dr Anita Manohar, Head of Education Dr Vandana Narang, Dr Divya Sathyan and others participated in the convocation.

Union Minister of State for Railways & Textiles Darshana Vikram Jardosh has visited Weavers’ Service Centre, Chennai and office of Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India on Saturday. During her visit, she has observed the activities of various sections viz. Design Section, Weaving Section and Dyeing & Printing section of Weavers Service Centre, Chennai. Also she has gone through the handloom products developed by the trainees of Skill Upgradation Training Programmes conducted in various Clusters as well as in SAMARTH Scheme. She has also gone through the samples developed by the Weavers Service Centres.
The Minister interacted with the handloom weaver beneficiaries of Hathkarga Samvardhan Sahayatha (HSS), Skill Upgradation Training Programmes, Workshed, Lighting Units, Yarn Supply Scheme, Mudra Scheme, etc., in the presence of Muthusamy, Zonal Director (South & West Zone) and officers of Weavers Service Centres of Chennai, Salem and Kancheepuram. She has also interacted with the Short Term Trainees of Weavers Service Centre, Chennai about their training in various disciplines and the significance of their training.
Addressing the reporters after inaugurating the exhibition at Temple Tower, the minister said that the Central Cottage Industries Corporation is extending its arms to the artisans through various schemes for upskilling, sustainability etc.
Mahendra VS Negi, Managing Director, Central Cottage Industries Corporations of India Limited and other officials accompanied the minister.
