Speaking to reporters, Dr L Murugan said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his interaction with District Collectors a couple of days ago, asked them to provide vaccines to people at their doorsteps. Following this, Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya launched the programme in Gujarat on Diwali day and we are here today to implement it in Tamil Nadu.”

In pursuance of Hon’ble PM Sh @narendramodi Ji’s appeal for #HarGharDastak today I gave #VaccineDastak at the houses of Semathamman Nagar in Chennai.

Thank you Sh @mansukhmandviya Ji.

Stating that India has emerged tall in global arena by administering 100 crore doses of vaccine, the Minister added, “This is not an easy task. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved this. This feat has been made with the support of state governments, doctors, nurses, frontline workers and general public. We have given vaccines to around 6 crore people in Tamil Nadu. While 93 percent people have received the first dose, 30 percent have received the second. There are over 60 lakh people who are yet to receive second dose jab.”

Dr L Murugan urged people to stay cautious in view of festival season. “I request those who have not received second dose to get it without further delay. Only now we are coming out of corona. We have achieved something which has not done by anyone. People should come forward to get their shots. Tamil Nadu Health Minister and Health department officials have launched vaccine at doorstep drive. People should make use of this opportunity and get jabs,” he said.

The Union Minister of State requested people to wear masks and follow other COVID protocols without fail. “Though Deepavali is over, other festivals are coming up. Hence, we should remain alert.”

Dr Murugan, who said that the Union government has reduced tax on petrol and diesel as Deepavali gift for people, expressed hope that Tamil Nadu government too would bring down the VAT on fuels as many other States are doing it.

Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Dr T S Selvavinayagam, Zonal Officer of Greater Chennai Corporation Dr Manish and Press Information Bureau, Chennai, Director Gurubabu Balaraman among others were present on the occasion.

Tamil Nadu commences door to door campaign for 2nd Covid vaccine dose

The Health Department is using the services of the mobile vaccination clinics for the purpose of conducting door-to-door awareness and to check out the persons to be inoculated.

Tamil Nadu has already vaccinated 71 per cent of its eligible population with the first dose of vaccine but only 31 per cent have taken their second dose. Except in the Nilgiris (58 per cent) and Chennai (50 per cent), no other districts of the state have touched the 50 per cent mark regarding the second dose of vaccine.

The Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine said that 50,44,862 persons are eligible for the second dose of the Covishield vaccine and 14,11,437 people for Covaxin.

The department has already prepared a list of the people eligible for the second dose on a district level basis and health teams are reaching out to those who are delaying it. The health department is also focusing on those who have yet to take even a single dose of vaccine.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister, Ma Subramanian said,: “After the number of new Covid-19 cases has decined drastically, there is a tendency among the people to delay the second dose and this is not acceptable. We have deputed mobile volunteers to check the details of those who have not taken the second dose even after being eligible for the same and would take measures for them to be inoculated.”

Dr. Suchitra V. Menon, Professor of Microbiology, in a Government medical college of Tamil Nadu, said: “People with co-morbidities and those who have undergone organ transplantation like liver transplant, kidney transplant, etc requires a booster dose and you cant ask them to take a booster dose without a second dose and hence people must be made aware that second dose vaccines are as important as the first dose.”

TN reschedules 8th COVID mega vaccination camp to November 14

The eighth edition of the mass vaccination campaign against COVID19, originally scheduled for Saturday, would be held on November 14 following the request made by the medical fraternity and also due to the onset of the North East Monsoon, Tamil Nadu Minister Ma Subramanian said on Friday.

Based on the request made by healthcare workers following the holiday season on account of Deepavali festival, and the meteorological department predicting more rains for 15 districts on November 6, it has been planned to conduct the camp on November 14, the Minister for Medical and Family Welfare said. He was talking to reporters after inspecting the Government Arignar Anna Memorial Cancer Hospital in neighbouring Kancheepuram district.
