Union Minister of State for Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Fisheries as well as Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan was on a day-long visit to Andaman and Nicobar islands on Saturday.
Today, interacted with #Fishermen Community of #Andaman_Nicobar at Junglighat, Port Blair.

He interacted with the officials of All India Radio in Portblair and reviewed the functioning of AIR.

Later, he attended the Fishermen Community Interaction Programme in the evening. During the interaction, Dr. Murugan gave a patient listening to all the issues raised before him by local fishermen. The issues were ranging from development of fishing jetties, fish landing centres, grant of permission to pass the creek for shortest route to North and Middle Andaman for fishing and providing more facilities to the local fishermen community.

In his address, the MoS assured the local fishermen community to take appropriate steps to resolve the issues. He also apprised the gathering about steps taken by the government to promote the fishing sector in India. He informed about creation of Fishing Infra and Aquaculture Development Fund for betterment of fishermen.
He said that the Kisan Credit Card Scheme has been extended to fishermen and the Centre is keen to ensure the livelihood and safety of fishermen.
The Department of Fisheries in the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat package, is implementing a flagship scheme namely, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) with highest ever investment of Rs 20,050 crore for a period of five years from FY 2020-21 to 2024-25 in all States and Union Territories (UTs), the Minister of State said.
Later, he took part in the rally organized by the party.
