Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar on Friday felicitated Tokyo Paralympics medal winners of the Indian Paralympics Contingent. He also felicitated the coaches of the Paralympians, says a Ministry release.

A cash award of Rs 10 lakh has been given to Gold Medalists, Rs 8 lakh to Silver and five lakh to Bronze medal winners.
Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale was also present on the occasion.
The felicitation ceremony was organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
It is for the first time the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has taken a decision to provide cash awards to Paralympic winners. The cash award will be paid directly into the bank account of the players.
Speaking on the occasion, the Social Justice and Empowerment Minister congratulated all the medal winners and every member of the Indian Paralympic team for their outstanding effort in bringing glory to the nation. He also thanked the coaches of the Indian Paralympic team for their significant contribution in developing world class divyang sports persons in the country.
India had sent highest ever contingent of 54 Divyang sports persons across nine disciplines in the recently concluded Tokyo Paralympics. The Indian Paralympians created history by winning 19 medals.
