A high-level delegation headed by A K Gupta, Additional Director, Regional Centre for Urban & Environmental Studies (RCUES), Lucknow and Priyanka Kumar – Urban Planner, RCUES has visited Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar Smart City ICCC Control Rooms, including GIFT (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City) City from February 21-23, 2020 to study the best practices and various aspects of Smart City which may be adopted in the smart cities of Uttar Pradesh (UP) in future.
According to Gupta, “The objective of the three-day visit is to observe and analyse the best practices of ICT in these cities and how the same can be implemented in smart cities of UP. Uttar Pradesh state has been developing 10 smart cities funded by the central government under Smart City Mission and 7 smart cities under the state-led fund.”
When asked about the difference between Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the Lucknow Municipal Corporation as Smart Cities, Gupta said, “Ahmedabad is way ahead in adopting IT for citizen-centric schemes under e-governance and handles water, transportation, solid waste management, adopting GIS for property tax collection very well as they fall under AMC. We will replicate the best practices of AMC in all 10 Smart Cities.”
Gupta added that pressing into service of electric buses has helped Lucknow to bring down pollution level and the Metro rail projects in major cities of UP will ease traffic congestion.
The team appreciated the various unique initiatives taken by Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar administration for ICCC solutions like solid waste management, Smart Poles, Digital Display, various Mobile Apps, general surveillance, intelligent traffic management system and machine-based deep learning analytics.
The best part found by the team was the Secura make Local processing units used in ITMS solutions to send relevant data to CR. Some of the Secura applications under general surveillance like spitting while driving, No Helmet, No Hawking Zone, etc was very much appreciated by the team. They also understood the challenges of green filed development and brown filed development. The team said that the administration of both cities have successfully implemented infrastructural projects. They also learned before and after the situation of traffic in the city. Smart traffic management system provided by Secura has been very successful and that generated revenue also which can be adopted in other cities also apart from some recognition initiatives for law-abiding citizens.
