Uttarakhand Minister for Cooperation, Primary and Secondary Education and Health Dr Dhan Singh Rawat visited NABARD, Gujarat Regional Office on Sunday. He was here to understand the concept of Model Cooperative Village, being piloted by NABARD and Gujarat State Cooperative Bank in the State of Gujarat.
The Pilot project has the distinction of having been launched by the Home Minister Amit Shah in the presence of Chairman, NABARD, in a ceremony held on April 10, 2022. NABARD, Gujarat RO has conceived this idea of Model Cooperative Village with multiple objectives of not only making the PACS vibrant in the State so that they can provide a one-stop solution to the villagers, but also generating livelihoods for the villagers and overall improvement in the standard of living in the villages through the cooperative mode.
Dr Dhan Singh Rawat was welcomed by the NABARD, Gujarat Team led by Dr Gyanendra Mani, CGM, NABARD, Gujarat RO.
NABARD, Gujarat RO made a presentation on the concept of Model Cooperative Village followed by a presentation by Gujarat State Cooperative Bank on their performance in the last 10 years.
Later, Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, addressed the staff of NABARD, Gujarat and Gujarat State Coop Bank and discussed about the best practices being followed by Cooperative Banks in Gujarat and Uttarakhand. He suggested exchange of ideas for continuous improvement in the working of Cooperative Sector. He particularly appreciated the pilot project of Model Cooperative Village being implemented in 6 villages of Gujarat.
He elaborated on many successful projects done for the Rural Cooperative Sector in Uttarakhand. Some of them are the ‘Ghasiyari Kalyan Yojana’, opening the very successful ‘Mahila Banks’ in all districts, 100% PACS computerisation in the State of Uttarakhand, 0% rate of interest on farm loans benefitting 6.5 lakh farmers, Special drives for loan recovery, etc., along with many others and offered valuable suggestions for the Model Cooperative Village project.
He was appreciative of the role of NABARD and that of Dr Gyanendra Mani, CGM, NABARD, Gujarat in coming up with fresh ideas for strengthening Rural Cooperative sector. He lauded the efforts of Gujarat State Cooperative bank for their zero net NPA position, besides other positive financial parameters. Besides NABARD officials, the meeting was also attended by Joint Registrar of Coop Societies, GoG, CEO, Gujarat State Cooperative Bank and other officials.
