Veteran journalist Nachiketa Desai, grandson of Mahadevbhai, passes away in Ahmedabad on Sunday morning.

He was undergoing treatment for cancer and kidney related ailments for a long time.

He has started his journalistic career in 1978. In his career spanning over 45 years, he had worked with leading national and regional media organization, print as well as electronic. He had worked in the field as a correspondent and on the desk as an editor. He was also the visiting faculty of many mass communication institutes in Ahmedabad and elsewhere.

Padma Bhushan awardee, political scientist and Gandhian scholar Lord Bhikhu Parekh released  a book titled  “Mahadev Desai: Mahatma Gandhi’s Frontline Reporter” on Gandhiji’s secretary Mahadevbhai at Sabarmati Ashram here on January 1 this year to mark Mahadevbhai’s birth anniversary.

This book was compiled and edited by Nachiketa Desai.

Desai’s last rites will be held at Antim Dham crematorium in Thaltej at 5:30 pm on Sunday, family sources said.
