Kollywood is known for making socially relevant films depicting the tattered lives of the working class and creating awareness of their rights.
Sangathalaivan is a film portraying the travails of power-loom workers from the award-winning Tollywood producer Vetri Maran which will hit the theatres on Friday.
Announcing this at a press conference on Wednesday, Vetri Maran said the film was the adaptation of the novel “Thariyudan’’ written by writer Bharathinathan.
Commenting on the film, Vetri Maran said, “It is not easy to produce a socially-conscious film based on an ideology. The film was produced after Actor Karunas and producer Udaya had shown interest in the project. We thought Samuthrakani would be the right choice for the lead role of a union leader and it worked well. All those involved in the project gave their best.”
It was the first film to be released in theatres directly by the producer and the entire dealings on this were looked after by the leading producer Kalaipuli S Dhanu, added Vetrimaran.
The Director of the film Manimaran said that it was a difficult subject to handle because the content was tough. Actor Karunas said this film would give him a much-needed breakthrough Manimaran.
Actor Samuthrakani said, “The entire team gave their best and I feel the opportunity was God’s gift,’’
VJ turned actor Ramya Subramanian was the Jodi for the union leader Samuthrakani and Sunu Lakshmi was the pair for Karunas who became a union leader from a factory worker.
The music director of the film was Robert Sargunam.
