For Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, his two-day Tamil Nadu visit will be more than a ceremonial tour—it will bring together the State’s academic aspirations, institutional milestones, public memory and nationalist literary tradition on one itinerary.

The Vice-President will undertake a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu on August 16 and 17, travelling across Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvarur and Thanjavur for a series of academic, commemorative and literary engagements. The schedule was also reported on August 14, ahead of the visit.
The visit comes with a distinctive academic emphasis, with two convocations featuring prominently in the itinerary, besides a major university anniversary celebration and events commemorating prominent public figures and nationalist thought.
SRMIST Convocation
On August 16, Radhakrishnan will attend the 22nd Convocation of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) at Kattankulathur in Chengalpattu.
The Vice-President’s interaction with graduating students assumes particular significance as India’s higher-education landscape increasingly focuses on innovation, entrepreneurship, research and employability. SRMIST’s Kattankulathur campus is the institution’s flagship campus and hosts programmes across engineering, medicine, science, management and other disciplines.
From Chengalpattu, the Vice-President will return to Chennai to attend the first death anniversary programme of La. Ganesan, former Governor of Nagaland, Manipur and West Bengal, at Vani Mahal, T. Nagar.
The day will conclude with a literary engagement—the release of ‘Echoes of a Nationalist Mind’, a book based on the thoughts and writings of late K. Ramagopalan, founder of Hindu Munnani, at the D.G. Vaishnava College Auditorium in Chennai.
Academia, memory and literature
The second day, August 17, will take the Vice-President beyond Chennai.
He will attend the 11th Convocation of the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) at Thiruvarur, where the focus will shift once again to the aspirations of a new generation of graduates.
The Vice-President will thereafter proceed to Thanjavur to participate in the Ruby and Silver Jubilee Valedictory Celebrations of SASTRA Deemed University.
SASTRA, based in Thanjavur district, has built a substantial academic footprint in higher education, particularly in engineering, science, technology and interdisciplinary research. Its academic activities have included strong emphasis on emerging areas such as AI, cybersecurity, IoT and data analytics.
Radhakrishnan’s Tamil Nadu engagements thus bring together young graduates beginning new journeys, institutions celebrating milestones, remembrance of public life and the preservation of literary and ideological legacies.
For the Vice-President, who was born in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, the visit also carries a strong home-State resonance. He has previously represented Coimbatore in the Lok Sabha and served as Governor of Jharkhand and Maharashtra before becoming the 15th Vice-President of India in September 2025.
